Free Spanish Level Test
Not sure where you are with your Spanish? This free test takes about 10 minutes and gives you a level from A1 to B2, based on the levels used by schools and official exams across Europe.
The questions start easy and get harder as you go. Choose the answer that sounds right to you, without looking anything up. At the end you’ll see your level, which questions you got wrong and why, and what to work on next.
What do the Spanish levels mean?
The levels come from the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which is used across Europe and by official exams like the DELE. Here’s what each one looks like in real life.
A1 – Beginner. You can introduce yourself, ask simple questions and understand slow, clear Spanish about familiar things. You know the present tense of common verbs and basic vocabulary like numbers, food and family.
A2 – Elementary. You can talk about your routine, your plans and what you did last weekend. You can get by in shops, restaurants and on public transport, as long as people speak clearly.
B1 – Intermediate. You can hold a real conversation, explain your opinions and deal with most situations while travelling in Spain. You’re starting to use the subjunctive, even if it still feels unnatural.
B2 – Upper intermediate. You can follow most conversations between native speakers, talk about abstract topics and argue your point. Mistakes don’t get in the way of people understanding you.
C1 and C2 – Advanced. You use Spanish flexibly and naturally, including at work or university. This test doesn’t go this far, because these levels are hard to measure with multiple choice questions. If you score B2, the best next step is a conversation with a native speaker.
