Sevilla


The life style is definitely one of the things that can make you love this city. People of Sevilla know how to enjoy life and one example of this is the amount of festivities that are celebrated all year round.

Some characteristic of life in Seville and their habitants, are the long hours spent on the street, the big crowds specially during celebrations such Easter week, which are constant and not something they avoid. Humor and kindness are two well definitions for sevillanos as they love welcoming visitors.

What to visit in Sevilla

Catedral de Sevilla

It is the largest Gothic temple and one of its most characteristic elements is la Giralda, the bell tower annexed to the building. Inside the cathedral there are great pieces of art, including works from Murillo and Zurbarán. Another interesting part in the building is el Patio de los Naranjos.

Giralda

La Giralda is definitely one of the symbols of Seville. The tower is from 11th century when Muslim empire ruled most of Iberic peninsula, and was inspired by the towers in Marrakech and Rabat. The Arabic art is reflected in this monument, whose exterior has a beautiful decoration made of sebka, type of decorative motif used in western Islamic.

After the Reconquest by Catholic Kingdom, the monument had added a renacentist part to the original building, done during 16th century. There is a four meters sculpture commonly known as el Giraldillo, built as symbol of Faith’s triumph.

Torre del Oro

Originally created as a defensive fortress to watch the entry in the city from the river. From Islamic architecture, today is a naval museum as well as a viewpoint to the river.

Puente de Triana

The Isabel II bridge (popularly know as Puente de Triana) is the oldest bridge from the city, built in 1852. Stone pillar and iron were used for the construction. It was declared National historic monument in 1976.

Plaza de España

This square is an unique space that has no similarity to others Plaza de España that we can find in Spain. It is a tribute to la Hispanidad (spanish-speaking world) and built by Aníbal González for visitors to enjoy the surrounds.

Real Alcazar de Sevilla

It is a beautiful space that gathers different styles and a mix of cultures, along with wonderful gardens. The Alcazar is located in the center of the city and is one of the oldest royal palace, built on top of roman ruins since the year 913 as a royal residence and defensive construction as well.

El Archivo General de Indias de Sevilla

It is one of the most symbolic buildings in the city. Reference in history, during the beginning of Conquest in America, it was the gate to the trade with Las Indias and is learnt today as part of the Spanish presence in American continent.
